March 12, 2001. Information subject to change. |
Based loosely on George Orwell's Animal Farm, it's going to be a zero
point game, with the players in teams. It will be held April 28, or
alternatively on May 5. If you have not signed up for this game yet, or if you were undecided if you wished to play, please send
me an email letting me know if you'd like to play, and which date
would be best for you. If you can come, send along your name,
telephone number, email account, and preference of roles. Detailed
information will be forthcoming as soon as we work it out. *grin*
Right now, I can say that all players will be domesticated farm
animals, such as horses, pigs and fowl. The teams will be divided by
ideology and long-standing bonds, though you may choose to sway others
to your point of view through whatever means you find successful.
There will be quests that, when completed, will make future tasks
simpler or turn the odds in your team's favour.
Briefing
Comrades, what is the nature of this life of ours? Let us face it, our
lives are miserable, laborious and short. We are born, we are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies, and those of us who are capable of it are forced to work to the last atom of our strength; and the very instant that our usefulness has come to an end we are slaughtered with hideous cruelty. No animal in England knows the meaning of happiness or leisure after he is a year old. No animal in England is free. The life of an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth.
But is this simply part of the order of Nature? Is it because this land of ours is so poor that it cannot afford a decent life to those who live upon it? No, comrades, a thousand times no! The soil of England is fertile, its climate is good, it is capable of affording food in abundance to an enormously greater number of animals than now inhabit it. Why then do we continue in this miserable condition? Because nearly the whole of the produce of our labour is stolen from us by human beings. There, comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in a single word -- Man. Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished for ever.
Is it not crystal clear, then, comrades, that all the evils of this life of ours spring from the tyranny of human beings? Only get rid of Man and the produce of our labour would be our own. Almost overnight we could become rich and free. What then must we do? Why, work night and day, body and soul, for the overthrow of the human race! That is my message to you, comrades: Rebellion!
Remember, comrades, your resolution must never falter. No argument must lead you astray. Never listen when they tell you that Man and the animals have a common interest, that the prosperity of the one is the prosperity of the others. It is all lies. Man serves the interests of no creature except himself. And among us animals let there be perfect unity, perfect comradeship in the struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades.
Come join the struggle of animal versus man. Take up arms with your comrades; THE BEASTS OF ENGLAND await.
This will be a zero-point game. For further information, contact Jonathan Chapman at tel: 477-1392 or email: [email protected].

Even if you cannot attend then you may like to contribute by helping
with the scouts Quests. Every year we have a set number of questions
the Scouts must find the answers for to earn points to improve their
characters.
Last year they wanted 25 questions but to have them being hard or
obscure to
answer. If you think you have a bit of trivia regarding mythology, or some
fantasy venue then please send me the question and answer to it.
This year we are going to try to arrange to keep more of the scouts
occupied after the fight with the Guardians, so we will need a
greater number of members to stay later if possible. What happens is
that each team fights one of ten guardians, the top 20 teams go on
to fight the dragon. The remaining teams will be taken to a
different locale and will get to battle each other, with us being
the referee's. They will fight Double Elimination and the top team
will win a prize to be determined by Scouts Canada.
We are also going to be trying to keep those teams will be fighting
the dragon but are waiting for their turn occupied. This is not a
fixed idea yet, but may require members doing battle as guardians
again or some other form of entertainment.
Please reply letting me know if you will be attending or not and if
you have any trivia for the quests or ideas on how to improve the
game.
